Joseph Sutyak, age 98, of Westerville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at home with his wife Elizabeth (Betty) at his side, just as she was throughout his life. Joe was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 22, 1922 to the late Michael and Mary Sutyak and lived over half his life in Burton, Ohio in Geauga County. He graduated from East Tech High School, served in the Army during World War II, and attended Washington University in St. Louis and Dyke College. Joe retired from his accounting controller position at DeLaval Special Products/Transamerica and enjoyed almost 40 years of retirement! He cherished his family, his church, gardening, making homemade crock dill pickles, reading, playing horseshoes, golf and bowling, and enjoying a game of cards with his friends from St. Michael's Men's Club and 55+ Club. He treasured his time serving his church as Chairman of the Hall Board and President of the Men's Club as well as being a member of the Junior and then Senior "R" Clubs. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Betty (nee Kover), daughters Nadine (Don) Palmer, Natalie (Garry) Watkins and Michelle Sutyak (Ravi Sikand), grandchildren Ashley (Scott Lee), Brett (Niki), Irina, Jessi and Shea Palmer, Julia (Matt) Cotiguala, Robert (fiancee Ashtan Marucco), Emma, and Joseph Watkins, and Shauna Sikand (fiance Fraser Linklater), great-grandchildren Blake Fountain, Briana and Arianna Palmer, and Alex and Chloe Lee, as well as his many loving nieces and nephews and their families. He is predeceased by his sisters Helen Filipski and Pauline Dalton and brothers Michael and Theodore Sutyak. The family wishes to thank the staff at Parkside Village Senior Living (Kelsea, Katie, Sam, April, Ashley, Katherine, Christy, Sande, Chris, Kristel, Sarah, "Sugar", Jamie, Melanie and many others too numerous to mention), for being so kind to our dad during the past 7 years and becoming part of his and Betty's family. Private Orthodox Burial Service will be held at Archangel Michael Orthodox Church, 5025 E. Mill Road, Broadview Heights, OH 44147 on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. John Memorich officiating. Live streaming available at www.stmichaelscleveland.org/livestreaming. Interment at St. Theodosius Cemetery.
