In the realm of Christian ministry, the role of an evangelist is not only important, but vital; for it means to proclaim the Gospel, the Word of God, to people who are in dire need of this Good News (which means everyone). It is a command given to us by Christ Himself in His Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20) when He charged us to go forth to preach, teach, and “make disciples of all nations.”
Sadly, too often people assume that the work of evangelization is the duty of the clergy, and that evangelists must be gifted orators. Neither is true; evangelism is the responsibility of every Christian. Thus, one need not be a gifted speaker to simply share the love, joy, and hope they have found in Christ, nor be an ordained cleric to invite someone to “come and see” our worship services.
All that is required is for you to “Set the believers and example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity” (1st Timothy 4:12), because your example speaks louder than words.
