Can a priest be forced to reveal what is told to him during Confession?

Although many spine-tingling novels and movies like, “A Prayer for the Dying” and Alfred Hitchcock’s classic, “I Confess,” have capitalized on this issue, the answer to your question is “No;” no priest can be compelled to reveal a penitent’s confession. This is because within the Sacrament of Penance there exists, a “seal” between you, God, and your Spiritual Father. There are no exceptions to this fact.

Keep in mind that although the priest is a witness, your confession is still made directly to God, for He alone has the power to forgive sins. The priest’s role is simply to stand with you for moral support and to provide spiritual guidance before pronouncing absolution.
