Entering the House of God

When the Centurian asked our Lord to heal his servant, Jesus agreed to go. But then the Centurian said, “I’m not worthy to have you enter my home.” This is certainly a very profound, honest, and seriously self-analyzing statement, yet, let’s turn it around: What about us? Are we worthy to be in the House of God? Entering the Church entails much more than simply stepping through the outer door, it should be a spiritual event, a quest to honor God by our presence and to express thanksgiving for His manifold blessings, showing humility, reverence, and obedience in the process. King David wrote, “I was glad when they said unto me, ‘Let us go into the house of the Lord’.” (Psalm 122:1) Therefore, Christians must enter God’s House with the desire to offer joyous, meaningful worship with resounding praise, to seek His wisdom and truth, to experience His immeasurable love, mercy, and forgiveness, to bask in His glory, and be in “Communion” with God and each other through the Holy Eucharist. God welcomes us into His Home regardless of our sinfulness, because we are His children and He chooses to focus on our potential rather than our problems. Thus, the House of God remains a house of hope and healing, a sanctuary for our soul. A place in which we enter to worship and exit to serve.
