I know that St. Patrick of Ireland is widely venerated in the Roman Catholic Church, but how is he viewed by the Orthodox Church?

Prior to the Great Schism in 1054 AD, all saints of the Church were held in common. Therefore, since St. Patrick lived and died in the mid 5th century, he is just as much a saint in the Eastern Church as he is in the West. Both the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church honor his life and recognize his important missionary and apostolic efforts. St. Patrick is commemorated as the Bishop of Armagh, and Enlightener of Ireland.

On a side note, in Ireland this saint’s day is celebrated with great solemnity and looked upon as a national Holy Day. Outside of Ireland, however, this day tends to be identified not as much with the saint, but with being of Irish heritage.
