Keep a strict watch against any appearance of pride: it appears imperceptibly, particularly in time of vexation and irritability against others for quite unimportant causes.

Once when a hippopotamus was ravaging the neighboring countryside the fathers called on Abba Bes to help them. The hippopotamus vanished completely from that district as if driven away by an angel.
