Our Church was recently notified regarding the sad news of the passing of Mary Jane Lucak, who fell asleep in the Lord on April 22, 2026.
Mary Jane Lucak (née Michak), age 87, beloved wife of Robert J. Lucak for 63 years; a loving mother to Jennifer Pishko (Gale, deceased), Christopher, and Gregory (Robin); a cherished grandmother to Elizabeth Matyas (Patrick) and Nicholas Lucak; and a proud great grandmother to William Matyas. She was a devoted sister to Marjorie Arendas (Bernard, deceased) and Helen “Henny” Michak (deceased), and the beloved daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (nee Patrick) Michak.
Affectionately known as “Teta” to many in the Lucak, Arendas, and Andrews families, Mary Jane had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. Her family extended well beyond relatives to include neighbors and friends who were always invited into her home and her heart.
Mary Jane was an integral and active member of Archangel Michael Orthodox Church, where she worshiped faithfully and generously shared her talents. She delighted in making pierogis, planning excursions for the 55+ Club, and chairing special parish events, including craft fairs and banquets.
Her family was her greatest joy. Holidays were especially meaningful, as loved ones gathered at Jane’s house to celebrate cherished traditions—from Svjatyj Vecer and Pascha to Thanksgiving or simply keeping the front porch light on for trick or treat. She loved feeding those around her, and her home was known for its warmth, terrific cooking, and festive spirit. Family members could always count on an early morning phone call, complete with Mary Jane singing “Happy Birthday” on their special day. Her boundless generosity and loving heart will be deeply missed.
Reflecting her devotion to bringing people together, Mary Jane also served as the manager of Woodside Event Center for 35 years, where she curated events that helped countless families celebrate life’s most meaningful moments. An avid reader, Mary Jane could often be found surrounded by a small mountain of library books. She loved the ocean and treasured vacation days spent at the beach, reading in the sun. Always up for an adventure, she enjoyed day trips to shop for pottery, explore the Lake Erie Islands, or simply take a drive. Each spring, her attention turned to her beloved Cleveland Guardians. Mary Jane will be remembered for her deep love of family, her generous spirit, and the countless lives she touched with kindness, hospitality, and joy.
