The Bible contains some very profound and ominous statements:
“Am I my brother’s keeper?”
“Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.”
“One of you will betray me.”
“Though they all fall away, I will never fall away… Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you.”
“Could you not stay awake and pray with me?”
And of course, the crowd’s blood-curdling voice, “Crucify Him!” “We have no king but Caesar!” “His blood be upon us and our children!”
Well, in today’s gospel parable of the Last Judgment we hear another bone chilling remark that cuts us to the core: “Lord, when did we see You hungry, thirsty, naked, or in need?” Words which convict and show just how oblivious and unconcerned we can be for our neighbors, ignoring those in need and passing by the poor.
As followers of Christ, we must “see” Christ in all others. We cannot think of ourselves without thinking of God, and one cannot think of God without thinking of those around us. Thus, putting our faith into action involves the very act of “action,” doing onto others; because we show our service to Christ through caring for, ministering to, and serving one another.
