Today’s gospel shows us true Christian love. Jesus encounters a man who comes to him in desperation because his only daughter is dying. This is no ordinary man. His name is Jairus and he is a leader of the synagogue. This is a group that has treated Jesus terribly often charging him with blasphemy.
Most of us if approached by such a man would say something negative to him but not Jesus. Jesus quickly does what most would not and agrees to heal the man’s daughter.
On his way Jesus is approached by a large group of people asking for healing. In the crowd was a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years. She was an outcast and simply touched the hem of Jesus’s robe. Immediately she was healed. Jesus does not turn his back even on the outcast or the downtrodden.
These two healings show the incredible love Jesus has for his people and what true love looks like. Jesus looks past our past and is here for everyone.
So let us remember to be like Jesus and be there for our fellow humans. Let us look past perceived wrongs done to us and instead look at other people as brothers and sisters. Let us treat each other with the same love that God who is love loves us.
