We have all heard the expression: “Desperate times call for desperate measures.” Well in today’s Gospel we see two very desperate individuals who did just that: went through desperate measures and great lengths to reach Christ. One was the woman who was cured of her hemorrhage by courageously forcing her way through a huge, jostling crowd to get to Jesus, and the other was Jairus, who left his dying daughter’s bedside to find Jesus and beg Him for help. For their efforts, both experienced the miraculous effect of Christ’s healing power. This is because, although they were desperate, they never disparaged or lost hope. They didn’t simply view Christ as their “last resort,” but rather, their “only option.”
